Google Panda update is an algorithm introduced by Google on February 24, 2011, named after Google Engineer, Navneet Panda, when content farms rose in popularity. It was developed to decrease the number of low-quality websites showing in SERPs and boost the rankings of websites that adhered to guidelines. It is now integrated into Google’s core algorithm. It is used to reduce the ranking of low-quality content in Google’s Search Results.
The update is aimed at combating the increase of content farms and sites that offer less than credible information. But initially, it was a filter rather than a part of Google’s Algorithm, helps in to improve the sites ranks. In January 2016, it was incorporated into the ranking algorithm.
Panda lowers the rank of the low quality sites or thin contents as it is basically related to the content in the website. It lowers the rank in order to give the high quality results. The idea behind this was that if there are too many low-quality sites, it will lower the overall quality of search results. Rather than improving user experience, it would instead diminish it.
At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites, the sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and many more.

The reason this update failed is because it led to the opposite of its intended effect. Some sites saw their rankings go up after the update while others were penalized for having good content. This is because Google’s algorithm wasn’t sophisticated enough at understanding different types of websites, especially those that were trying to game Google’s system.
